Before you leave the University, we advise you to to check the following services and transfer data you need from your account: Information for staff leavers regarding IT Services facilities.

Lucy will be in touch for your forwarding information to process your leaver form. Please make sure you have taken the correct amount of leave. Your line manager should then go through the leavers checklist document with you.

Retirement

Ahead of retiring, you should obtain information about any pension benefits you have accrued while working at the University. You may also wish to consider flexible retirement. Current employees can find information about how to obtain retirement benefit illustrations on the pensions webpages.

You should discuss your intention to retire with your manager as early as possible, as they will need to notify HR earlier so that payment of your retirement benefits can be arranged on time. Once you have made your decision to retire, you should send a letter resigning from your post by reason of retirement to your line manager, giving your contractual period of notice. Please also CC Roland at environment-hod@york.ac.uk and Lucy at environment-hr@york.ac.uk.

For further information, please see the Retirement policy and Flexible retirement pages.

Fixed-term contracts coming to an end

If your fixed term contract is coming to an end, you should be having regular discussions with your line manager regarding your options going forward.

If there is no further funding or extension, and you have been employed at the university for over a year, you are eligible to go through the redundancy process, and are also eligible for redeployment. Please see the information below.

Facing the end of your contract can be an uncertain and stressful time. Please keep communicating with your line manager, and if you need further support, please refer to the Health and wellbeing wiki page.
