Lab Sustainability Tip of the Week 💡

Glass Washers

Only run the glasswasher when it is fully loaded. Your machine uses the same amount of water per cycle, unless you have a setting that allows for less water use, so running a cycle only when full is more sustainable and should result in running the machine less frequent.

Purchasing Requests

If you wish to request the purchase of laboratory chemicals, consumables and equipment, please email environment-technicians@york.ac.uk providing a list of the items you require. Please include:

  • the product name

  • supplier (see below)

  • product code

  • quantity required

  • a workorder/grant code for them to be charged to.

Please note that the technical staff can only purchase from approved university suppliers using the YEP system, so if you wish to purchase from a particular supplier, please check with us first to confirm that they are on the list of approved suppliers.

We will email you when a delivery has arrived and packages will be available to collect from the corridor outside the Technicians’ office.  Please inform the Technical staff if you are expecting delivery of any live organisms that might require special handling upon arrival.

Please label new chemicals with your name and the date received and add them to our Quartzy chemical inventory
