How to use a parameter to pull different sheets into a dashboard

Example: Graduate Outcomes Sector Analysis report - change the ‘Trend Graphs’ parameter to swap out different sheets in this dashboard.

Step by step guide:

  1. Create your sheets as normal; these can be multiple versions of the same chart or different visualisations depending on your data.

  2. Create a parameter and name it something clear, descriptive, and concise.

  3. Configure the parameter as a ‘string’ and set allowable data to ‘list’. Add in the names of the different charts as values manually:

  1. Create a calculate field which only contains a reference to the parameter:

  1. In your first sheet, show the parameter and set it to the the corresponding value for that sheet

  2. Add this calculated field to the filters of your sheet and select the relevant value (this should be the only one available in a list of 1)

  1. Selecting another option in the parameter should result in a blank sheet.

  2. Repeat steps 5 to 7 for the other sheets ensuring the relevant parameter setting and filter option is selected for each sheet.

  3. Go to your dashboard and drag in all the relevant sheets

  4. Using the main menu Analyse > Parameters add your newly created parameter to the dashboard

  5. Set the parameter to your desired default and all sheets not containing this data should disappear and the relevant sheet should autosize to fill the space (note: ensure they’re all added to the same container in the dashboard).
