Disability Services

If a student has a long term condition or diagnosed disability that has an impact on their ability to study, Disability Services can arrange academic support and adjustments through a Student Support Plan.

IT Software to support Accessibility

The University has a range of IT software available to all students and staff at the University to help support accessibility.  See the adjacent link for details of what is available and how to access it.

The Distractibles

A monthly meetup of people who are neurodiverse or just battling distractions. Both staff and students are welcome. Last Friday of the month, 12.30pm to 1.30pm, online.

Spectrum

Spectrum is a group for those of us who consider ourselves to be on the autistic spectrum. This is an open group, running every fortnight during term time. It's a safe place to meet new people and have fun.

Psychology Disability Committee

The psychology disability committee is a student-led group aiming to help disabled psychology students meet others and find their place in the department.  The committee runs a number of study support initiatives, social events and campaigns to help connect and support disabled students as well as work towards helping to make the department more accessible and inclusive.

Partnership with RNIB Bookshare

The University of York has partnered with RNIB bookshare to allow print disable learners access to their repository of over a million digital format books.  If you are registered with Disability Services you can sign up for a University-based RNIB Bookshare account to access this digital library.  

Note: Due to copyright laws, only students registered with Disability Services can access this provision.  This service is also open to staff as well.
