  • Three large performance spaces including the 350-seat Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall
  • Five recording studios giving you access to 50 years of audio recording technology - from vintage analogue to contemporary digital software integrations
    • The Trevor Jones Studio is centred around a brand new SSL Duality console, which offers high quality analogue signal paths and processing as well as integrated control of digital editing and recording systems. The studio patch bay is integrated with a wide range of bespoke analogue and digital hardware including Bricasti reverberation, TC Electronic reverberation and mastering, 1176 and LA-2A compression, API bus mastering and vintage Neve EQ.
  • Practice spaces - well-equipped rehearsal spaces, each with a piano, chairs and access to music standards
  • Libraries and archives
    • John Paynter Music Library houses central music collections and also has digital pianos and media replay equipment
    • The University Library houses an extensive collection of CDs and DVDs available for listening and research
    • Access to York Minster Library - extensive collection of manuscripts and early printed sources
    • The University of York Sound Archives UYSA - a collection of sound recordings, specialising in non-commercial and unreleased recordings

  • Purpose-built £30m media complex featuring superb, industry-standard facilities and equipment
  • 3 HD TV studios with industry-standard equipment that has been used for projects for the BBC and other major clients
  • Scenic stage theatre and Black Box - two professional theatres that have data links to our TV studios for live performance broadcast and recording
  • 2 rehearsal rooms that can double as shooting spaces. One has a sprung floor for movement and dance activities. Both have PA systems for audio playback, and intercom links with theatre spaces.
  • Production equipment including cameras (Sony, RED and ARRI) and lenses, lighting and grip, production sound equipment and interactive media.
  • Post-production suites including ADR and Foley facilities, two general recording and mix rooms including Dolby Atmos, a live room and three picturing finishing suites featuring DaVinci Resolve.
  • 3 Apple Mac-based media labs to support design, production and post-production of all types of traditional and interactive media assets.
