• Like our internal peer review for proposals, our Department also encourages internal peer review for papers. Please contact our Chair of Departmental Research Committee (nicola.carslaw@york.ac.uk) if you'd like to make use of this support.
• Papers form an important part of the external Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment that happens every 5-6 years. For REF, papers are assessed out of 4 stars, based on originality, significance and rigour. The Department has a checklist that you can use (either when drafting your own paper, or as part of reviewing a colleague's paper) to ensure that the importance of your research is communicated in these criteria areas:
