Introduction

This page explains how to use the Application Completed Cycles tool, which contains comparison data and trend lines for various fields over the last 4 completed cycles (currently 2016/7 to 2019/0)

The Application Completed Cycles tool forms part of the Application Dashboard suite of Tableau workbooks.

Both this workbook - and the underlying data set - have been redeveloped in 2019 for the new cycle (2020/21 entry year).

Besides some cosmetic improvements, the workbook has changed little but some underlying data definitions have been adjusted with the result that previously reported figures may now be presented differently - and more accurately.

Details of the changes made can be found below.

Overview

The Application Completed Cycles workbook contains summary (aggregated) data about applications, offers, acceptances and registrations along with numerous rate calculation comparing the various metrics.

It's purpose is to allow a like-for-like comparison of end of cycle data between completed cycles to evaluate trends between them.

How to Use this Workbook

The workbook contains six main tabs:

UG: This tab displays, in both graph and table format, numerous data items relating to UG applications over the last 4 completed cycles. The full list of data items can be found below.

UG Overview Downloadable: This tab displays the tabular data from the above tab with instructions on how to download it easily.

PGT: This tab displays, in both graph and table format, numerous data items relating to PGT applications over the last 4 completed cycles. The full list of data items can be found below.

PGT Overview Downloadable: This tab displays the tabular data from the above tab with instructions on how to download it easily.

PGR: This tab displays, in both graph and table format, numerous data items relating to PGR applications over the last 4 completed cycles. The full list of data items can be found below.

PGR Overview Downloadable: This tab displays the tabular data from the above tab with instructions on how to download it easily.

Both tabs work basically the same way and, where applicable, filter options selected in one tab are retained in the other.

Please note that the University of York handles admissions for English language pre sessionals and therefore these figures show under UG and PG tabs.

The workbook is updated weekly (each Monday) in line with the other workbooks of the Application Dashboard suite however the data is not expected to change except for once a year when the cycle rolls forward.

For example the workbook would expect to show the 2016/7 to 2019/0 cycles until the completion of the 2020/1 cycle when it will move to display the 2017/8 to 2020/1 cycles.

Using the Change Date Window option you can restrict the time period shown in the graphs (e.g. to the last month); this permits more detailed scrutiny of difference between each academic year

Using the Choose Metric option you can change the measure that is plotted in the chart. Available options are: Applications; Offers; Live Offers; Unconditional Firm; Withdrawals.
