The WAM uses hours as the unit of measurement. These are approximate and timings are indicative, but should give a broad indication of the time commitment expected for different roles and tasks. These are spread across a full year, and there will be peaks and troughs in workload.

If you wish to provide feedback about specific time allocations, please contact our HR officer at environment-hr@york.ac.uk or the Head of Department at environment-hod@york.ac.uk,

The 'source of information' column indicates how we go about collecting this information - please check this before you query any discrepancies in your allocated workload as in some cases there might be multiple ways of calculating an allowance and we will have sought out the best balance between precision and the amount of work required to collect the data. We do sense-check the data from these sources but please let us know if something looks very wrong!

Citizenship Buyouts

When taking on a University buyout outside the department, other areas of workload will be adjusted to account for this buyout. This may not always be able to happen immediately, but we will look to facilitate it at the earliest opportunity.

Colleagues should discuss their workload allocation with the HoD when seeking approval to apply for the buyout role. In some cases, it will be appropriate to reduce the time allocation for research or scholarship - this will depend on the individual's circumstances and the needs of the Department at that time.
