fEC | Full Economic Cost | The full cost of a research project, as calculated by UK universities using a set formula. UK research funders usually fund a proportion of the full cost of the research |
PDRA | Postdoctoral Research Associate | Research staff with a PhD (not academics); generally referred to as a 'Research Associate' at York |
UKRI | UK Research & Innovation | A UK non-departmental public body which brings together 7 disciplinary research councils, Research England, and Innovate UK. These bodies distribute UK taxpayer research and innovation funding |

DTP | Doctoral Training Partnership | Doctoral Training Partnerships are multi-institutional partnerships designed to train the next generation of world-class researchers. They provide funding for innovative training environments of doctoral studies to either individual universities or a group of universities. |
CDT | Centre for Doctoral Training | Centres funded by one or more Research Councils within UK Research and Innovation. A CDT offers its PhD studentships through its university and research organisation partners to postgraduate students. |
REF | Research Excellence Framework | An assessment of UK universities which takes place every 7 years |
