Our York Open Research community of practice brings together researchers, PGRs and professional services staff to discuss and support open research in different areas. There are various channels and groups where open research is discussed:

The https://uoy.atlassian.net/wiki/x/ng0MAQ was launched in January 2021 to help promote and support open research practice within schools and departments.
The Open Research Strategy Group provides the strategic guidance and direction for open research activities at the University of York. It reports to the University Research Committee and makes recommendations to identify and address issues with services, infrastructure and policies, in order to enable and promote an open research culture. Current membership is listed on the Open research statement web page.

Arts and Humanities
The Archaeology Data Service (ADS), is the leading accredited digital repository for archaeology and heritage data generated by UK-based fieldwork and research. All data disseminated by the ADS is available to access openly and free from charge.

Aspectus is an open access journal for visual culture, run by doctoral students in the History of Art Department with a commitment to the principles of equality through access.

The Digital Archaeology & Heritage (DAH) Lab embrace hi-tech and low-tech approaches to bringing the past alive. Their projects and lecture series engage in a broad range of topics, including open and experimental practices in archaeology and heritage research.

Heritage Science Data Service provides core digital research services as part of the UK’s Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science. It is an accredited and FAIR data repository.

Internet Archaeology is an open access archaeology journal established in 1995, publishing quality academic content and explores the potential of digital publication through the inclusion of data, video, audio, images, visualisations, animations and interactive mapping. It is hosted by the Department of Archaeology and archived with the Archaeology Data Service.

York Papers in Linguistics is a long-running open access journal run by postgraduates in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science, aimed at highlighting research in the area of linguistics at York.

Sciences
The Centre for Future Health has promoted public engagement in the area of health across all departments at the University, and also supports the Involvement@York patient and public involvement (PPI) network.

The Department of Psychology Open Science Interest Group promotes and monitors the use of open science practices in their department, organising peer support, training, round table events and sharing educational resources. Their Introduction to Open Science (2026) workshop slides are available on Google Drive for other departments to reuse.

PROSPERO is an international systematic review registry that aims to promote transparency and open science, reduce reporting bias and help prevent unintended duplication and research waste. PROSPERO is produced by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) and funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)
ReproducibiliTea York is an ECR-led forum to discuss issues of open science and consider the reproducibility of research practices. They meet fortnightly in the Department of Psychology and welcome researchers from across disciplines. Discussion materials from previous sessions are available on OSF.
Research Coding Club is an informal group for anyone at the University with an interest in improving their development skills and applying FAIR (Findable Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and open research practices to research software and data. They maintain a Slack channel, mailing list and GitHub repository, and run regular code clinics, seminars and a training programme.
The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI-York) is an international non-profit research institute that tackles climate, environment and sustainable development challenges. Their research areas include Inclusive Citizen Science, with a group focused on best practice in citizen science and inclusive engagement for environmental sustainability.

Cultivate Journal is an open access inclusive feminist journal led by the postgraduate community within the Centre for Women’s Studies. The journal accepts academic essays as well as cultural commentary and creative work.

EROS (Education Research for Open Science) is a working group within the Department of Education who believe that the evidence based benefits of open science practices can apply to all paradigms/approaches, though at different levels and in different ways. IRIS (Instruments and data for research in language studies) is a free, searchable, up- and downloadable collection of datasets and instruments, materials, and stimuli that are used to elicit data for research into first, second, and foreign languages. It also hosts postprints of publications in the language sciences.

OASIS (Open Accessible Summaries in Language Studies) makes research on language learning, use and education available and accessible to a wide audience through one-page summaries of published research articles.

VOX is a student-run open access politics, economics and philosophy journal covering a wide range of perspectives on various subjects. Each issue incorporates the thoughts of acclaimed professors with the work of students both studying at York and at other universities.
