Summary

This discussion event was aimed at academic colleagues and focused on author experiences of publishing with White Rose University Press (WRUP). Similar events have recently taken place at the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield, and the organisers are planning a follow-up online event for later in the year.

Prof Tom Stoneham (Head of Department of Philosophy and Chair of the Editorial Board for WRUP) opened the event and introduced WRUP, the University of York’s open access academic press. Prof Penny Spikins (Department of Archaeology) then talked about her experience of publishing Hidden Depths: The Origins of Human Connection, including the benefits and possibilities of open acess books for researchers.

The event closed with a panel discussion on the values and challenges of open access book publication more broadly, chaired by Michael Fake (Associate Director: Student Learning and Experience, University of Leeds Library) with contributions from Tom and Penny, Sarah Thompson (Assistant Director: Content and Open Research, Library, Archives & Learning Services) and Kate Petherbridge (White Rose University Press Executive Manager).
