HESA Student Domicile Explorer

HESA Student Domicile Explorer

Overview

The HESA data is a headcount of student numbers. All sheets show the HESA Standard Registration Population, which excludes dormant students, postdoctoral students, programmes where the study is outside the UK, sabbatical and writing-up students. Incoming visiting and exchange students are included in the data.

Characteristics

The student headcounts incorporate the HESA rounding strategy:

  • All numbers are rounded to the nearest multiple of 5
  • Any number lower than 2.5 is rounded to 0
  • Halves are always rounded upwards (e.g. 2.5 is rounded to 5)
  • Averages based on 7 or fewer individuals are suppressed

Further details about the rounding strategy can be found at https://www.hesa.ac.uk/about/regulation/data-protection/rounding-and-suppression-anonymise-statistics

Percentages in the workbook have been calculated using the actual student headcount (not rounded).

Please be aware that the York's incoming exchange students are nearly all categorised as 'other undergraduate' and 'eligibility to pay home fees not assessed'.

Also, the 'exchange student' field was not purchased in 2010/11 and therefore there are nulls when filtering on this for these years.
