There is a dedicated network set up for EMBS practicals, connecting all desks in the CSE/168-9 hardware lab, along with EMBS boards in the Virtual Lab, and services running in the RTS Lab server room. This network is isolated from all other campus networks, and has no external access.
In the hardware lab, connect to the raised ethernet port on the desk (numbered CSE/X/XXX-XX) to use this network, not the flat port with the green dot. VLAB boards are already on this network.
Network Addresses
The FPGA boards do not have a pre-assigned MAC address, it must be set by your software. If you do this correctly then the DHCP server will give you a corresponding IP address so that you can communicate with the rest of the EMBS network. We use MAC addresses of the form 00:11:22:33:00:XX and the IP address you will be given will be of the form 192.168.10.XX. The MAC address is hexadecimal, but for the sake of human readability we pretend it is decimal so for example the MAC address 00:11:22:33:00:16 will get the IP address 192.168.10.16.
The Cat Facts server is at IP address 192.168.10.1
