Opportunities for students

Resources for supervisors and staff

What do we do?

The Environment and Geography careers and employability team work with staff and students within the department to improve students’ employability prospects and staff research links.

Who's on the team?

Angela Purdham - Industry Liaison Officer

  • Oversight of placements for undergraduate and MSc students
  • Liaises with industry about placements and job opportunities for students
  • Organises networking events for students and employers
  • Supports students in developing their employability skills


Jenny Pollard - Industry Liaison Officer

  • Oversight of placements for SuBLIM students
  • Liaises with industry about placements and job opportunities for SuBLIM students
  • Supports SuBLIM students in developing their employability skills

Brett Sallach - Department Careers Employability Coordinator 

  • Embedding employability into the wider undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum

Marie Robson - Student Services Administrator 

  • Provides administrative support to the team in particular the weekly Employability newsletter and event administration
Who else do we work with?

Faculty Careers Advisor

  • Plans employability sessions in collaboration with the department CEC
  • Delivers careers education, advice and guidance, 1:1 appointments and group sessions with students 
Employment experience available
  • York Strengths and York Award offer students the chance to reflect on their strengths and the skills they have developed over their degrees

  • A number of modules incorporate employability skills into their design (e.g. Flood Week)
