This guide - using the Applications Summary workbook as an example - will explain how to create a custom view on a Tableau workbook. Custom Views enable the user to return to a set of filters and display settings without having to select them each time.
1) Create the view by using filters
- Example: In this example we will create a custom view to see Admissions numbers for students under a single Route Owner, but also include students in joint programmes (eg English/History).

1) Create the view by using filters
...
- Below is the default view for the UG Applications Summary when opening the workbook. In this case, we will select an Admissions Entity (eg History), and then any other Route Owners of courses jointly delivered by that Admissions Entity (eg English and Related Literature).
- Then we can deselect the programmes that do not relate to History
...
- . With all these filters, the figures will reload to match the selection.
- Finally, select Yes
...
- to list the Admissions Entity and
...
- Programme names in the data
...
- , which will split the numbers accordingly. Now we can see the History programmes including the joint course with English.
2) Save the Custom View
...
- To save this as a view, click on View: Original and type your own name for the view.
- If you want this to be the default view whenever you access this page, keep "Make it my default" checked. Otherwise if you want to start with the original view then uncheck this. Then click Save.
- You can create more than one Custom View and switch between them as required by clicking on the same View: button (which will always list the name of the current view).
